Water Park : Barcelona

Some places, especially those normally associated with fun and excitement look especially out of place when they have been abandoned. The ferris wheel and swimming pool in Chernobyl were like this and this place equally so.
The water park was situated just outside of Barcelona and was only open for a short while, doing research into the place, there were a few reasons for its closure, ranging from money problems to stories of a child being killed in the pools wave machine.

The coastal drive was nice, weather cloudy and grey but looked like it had a bit of potential.
The waterpark looked very sad, perched up on the side of a hill but it was quiet and one of the easier places to find a suitable entrance.

There was more spray paint in this small park than probably in most car bodyshops, almost every bit of wall was tagged up, but most of had actually been done with some effort and skill, not like the usual crap that you see written on the walls.

The first building looked to be a toilet block and snack bar, once was probably white but now covered in bright coloured designs, spray cans left rusting on the floor surrounded by broken glass and what looked like pine cones. a bit further down were the first slides, winding down through the overgrown foliage, baked in the sun and faded in colour, it had been a long while since anyone had made it all the way down.

The paths were still marked out, painted green and overgrown with foliage, the main water slide looked old and tattered, the plastic covering the undulating drop towards the empty pool at the bottom had all but worn away, just leaving the area where you would once have launched yourself earthwards, the pool at the bottom like everything else was coloured brightly with the tags.

There were a few other buildings on the side of the park, as the sun started to burn through the cloud and it started to warm, the next building looked to be the snack bar, a big patio at the top with a wooden parasol like structure, all but burnt away and below what were once serving hatches and counters, probably surrounded with bar stools at some point.

The final stop in the water park was the helter skelter slide, this was definately the most picturesque part of the park, the twisted coloured plastic spirals against the painted concrete. I used my Infrared converted DSLR here, it gave the park and other worldly appearance.
Definately one of my best days out at a theme park
